Kosmos (cos’-mos)
gennema (ghen’-nay-mah)
metamorphoo (met-am-or-fo’-o)
genos (ghen’-nos)
In the first verse Paul wrote to present your bodies as a living sacrifice to God (and of course, God would not tell you anything that he did not do himself!)
In the second verse, he tells us how.
And be not conformed unto this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
In the original Greek, the words are in a slightly different order:
Kai me suschematizesthe to aioni touto, alla metamorphousthe te anakainosei tou nous humen, eis to dokimazein humas ti to thelema tou Theo to agathon kai euareston kai teleion
or literally; and not fashion yourselves to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for to prove by you what (is) will of God the good and well-pleasing and perfect.
We have a choice to follow the world (kosmos) in an age or a ‘time’ without life, filled with a grave of gravity or to lay aside every weight and be free of the ‘generation’ (gennema, offspring) of ‘vipers’. An offspring that generates
separation from the will of God with self-will and self-rule and worldly self-preservation. Even those who attend church, speak to God and give offerings, but were ruled by their emotions like Cain, who heard from God but chose not to renew their mind, being the offspring of the world (1 John 3:12).
When we renew our mind, or consciously use our mind to process information to allow in our heart only what is good (Matt 12:34), we are continuously aware of thoughts that are ungodly and deadly and cast them out and choose life giving opportunities (preaching, reading, meditating and worship) to consistently receive from God. The Spirit of God changes (metamorphou) us.
The will of God is the good and well pleasing and perfect. We can only be good, pleasing and perfect when God is in us, reflecting only his glory and not ours. Those of us who are born again in his image and have the power to become sons (and daughters) of God (John 1:12) and the mind of Jesus (Phil 2:15), become noticeably new creations of God (2 Cor 5:17) a chosen generation (genos), a royal priesthood, an holy nation, have proven to all what God’s will is, in the sacrificing of our old man by crucifying the flesh, and being holy as God is holy.
If God said you could, you can; even if the world says you can’t
If God said you would, you will; even if the devil says you wont
If God said you should you shall; even if your flesh says you shouldn’t
God is greater than the world, stronger than the devil, bigger than your flesh, giving His children beyond what they ask or think.
